World AIDS Day 2010
“Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise. Act Aware”
• HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.
• AIDS is now the leading cause of death for African American women ages 25 to 34.
• AIDS is the second leading cause of death for African American men ages 35 to 44.
• Most African American women living with HIV/AIDS were infected through
heterosexual contact.
• Almost half of all African American men living with HIV/AIDS are men who have had sex
with men. Another 23 percent of men were infected through intravenous drug use.
• Be safe.
• Talk to your partners.
• Get tested.
• Spread the word.
